At the end of January 2022 we will remove Xamarin from our officially supported platforms and with that we’ll also remove all VS4 Mac stacks. As a first step, we now deprecate Xamarin Steps and Visual Studio stacks on Bitrise and moving forward we will not publish new updates for them.
New Xamarin apps are no longer supported: The Xamarin scanner is removed from Bitrise and the project scanner does not recognize Xamarin apps and will not create default Workflows.
Xamarin Steps are now deprecated: The Steps are still available and the builds will not break, but the Workflow editor does not list these Steps anymore. (Read about adding them via your bitrise.yml here.)
Visual Studio for Mac stacks are now deprecated and will not receive additional updates.
Xamarin steps will be removed from the Step Library: The Steps will not be available in the Workflow editor anymore, however, the repository of the Steps will not be deleted. (Custom Steps can still be used: read how.)
Visual Studio for Mac stacks will be removed from Bitrise.
MAUI on Bitrise
We are discussing how MAUI could work on Bitrise with Microsoft, as it might be possible to run MAUI on MacOS stacks using a Script Step (without a Visual Studio stack available). However, Microsoft has postponed the MAUI production release to “early Q2 of 2022”.
Migrating from Visual Studio for Mac stacks
If you are using the Visual Studio for Mac stack for platforms other than Xamarin, we suggest migrating your Workflows to macOS stacks.
