Virtual Device Testing for Android: INVALID(NO_TEST_RUNNER_CLASS) error

Issue:

Virtual Device Testing Step is returning below error:

Failed to get test status, error: Failed to get test status: INVALID(NO_TEST_RUNNER_CLASS)

Possible Solutions:

Specify a test runner class in the field for Test runner class inside the Virtual Device Testing Step.

If this does not work:

  1. Make sure you have the step Android Build for UI Testing before the Virtual device testing Step.

  2. Delete the field for Test runner class inside the Virtual Device Testing Step.

  3. Make sure that Steps that exports an apk (like Gradle Runner) are placed after the Virtual Device Testing Step.
    Placing the Gradle Step (or any Step that also exports an apk) will cause this error:

    Could not find the exported app APK
